LOCATION OF INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTS

INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT INFORMATION
SANTIAGO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (STI)
PUERTO PLATA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (POP)
This is a nice
airport to fly into for towns or cities in this part of the country.
A very scenic ride to Rio San Juan, Nagua, Peninsula of Samaná. Buses to
these locations leave only once a day, approximately 7 o'clock in the
morning from Puerto Plata. Airport pick up can be arranged if needed
from POP, however, there is an additional charge of $60 US for airport
pick up from this airport to Samana' since it is further away. For
airport pick up return to Samana' the best airport is the Santiago
International Airport.
SAMANA'
(EL CATEY) INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
This is a new
airport and to date only a small number of airlines are serving it.
These include flights from Toronto, Canada and different places in
Europe, such as Condor and LTU International
Airways ( www.itu.com/world &
www.condor.com ) German airline,
Condor, have scheduled El Catey, Samana (airport code AZS) for flights
from Frankfurt International Airport (FRA). These airlines fly into El
Catey twice a week, with departures from Frankfurt on Wednesday and Sunday
and return flights on Monday and Thursday.
From the United
States, American Eagle also has a direct flights between Samana' and
Puerto Rico and flights run daily. American Airlines also has
an inexpensive flight direct to Samana' International from Puerto Rico
(see: American Airlines Net SAAver:
www.aa.com)
This is excellent for travellers coming into the Dominican
Republic through New York or Miami or other places that fly into Puerto
Rico as they can be routed through Puerto Rico directly into Samana' to El
Catey International. It is expected that even more airlines will be
flying into Samana' or El Catey International in the not so distance
future.
Air Transat (Montreal, Toronto-Pearson, Vancouver) Condor Airlines (Frankfurt) LTU International (Dusseldorf) Neos (Milan-Malpensa) Skyservice (Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City, Toronto-Pearson) Sunwing Airlines (Toronto-Pearson)[1] XL Airways (Paris)
U.S. flights are expected to be scheduled in the future.
The Branch is located approximately a half hour from this airport. So would be a good airport to fly in through if you would like to visit the Branch upon arrival. There is an additional charge of $50 for airport pick up from this airport to Samana' since it is further away, and a toll highway is used.
PUNTA CANA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (PUJ)
This
airport is located in the far east of the country near the eastern coast of the
mainland and is quite far from most areas of
the rest of the country. It would be ideal for flying into the country if you
were going to Higuey where one of the missionary homes is located, but not for
other parts of the country.
This airport was built, principally, to service the large resorts along
the eastern coast of the island. Airlines
often offer very cheap airfares arriving and departing through PUJ, however,
taxi service from this airport to Santo Domingo and other parts is very
expensive. For those desiring transportation to Samana' or Jarabacoa bed and
breakfasts, there is no airport pick up and return from this airport since it is
approximately 10-12 hours away.
